BuildCalc App Reviews

Buildcalc is a lifesaver

The best construction calculator, by far. Ive used all of them, and am very fussy. The closest competitor is the Construction Master Trig Plus Pro, but this one has the edge in several ways. The best is the tape tool that allows one to review their last ???? functions, and to retrieve lost numbers. I have the CM Pro on my phone too, but favor this one. Nice UI as well. Thanks for a great app!

Good app, good service

Im a single-fam residential drafter/designer. There are lots of conversion apps. Sure they are great and might even give you more choices for converting units. But none of them can calculate. At least I havent seen one except this. After all its a builders calculator. The developers know exaclty what theyre making and who its for. For portability, Ive used handheld build calcs and they cost more. At this price, not only its cheaper but you dont have to carry any extra calculators around. On that note you dont even have to worry about bringing any other "buildcalc" anywhere. After using a couple handhelds, this is by far the easiest and best!!! Very fast and friendly. I have to admit. Its got plenty of functions that I probably wont be looking for or use for that matter. But it serves me great and if I have questions, the creator/developers are on top of it right away!

Very buggy

Very very buggy, keeps crashing while rendering staircase drawings

Crashes

Crashes way to often.. Save your 20

Well done!

Wouldnt change a thing. A lot of the stuff I have been doing for years on Auto CAD. Now I have a computer in my pocket.

Last update

In the last update we lost the baluster function please set it back

Simply a great app!

It simply does what it was brilliantly designed to do VERY WELL. Ive tried other very good equivalents but this one rises to the top- great work in design and functionality team!

The building calculator

Far and away the best building calculator I have ever used. The advanced features for laying out ballisturs, cutting stair treads and calculating material set it apart from anything else out there. I only wish that more people would download it so that the developer would have a reason to update it more often!

How great is this

Im a pro carpenter, have been for many years, I have the C.MIV and the C.M Pro. This is all that and more, for twenty dollars! You dont get upgrades on those other calculators and if you lose its gone, $80. This is great that it follows the user and not the hardware. I used this app on the job for the first time yesterday cutting in a mixed pitch roof, what a joy. I carry my phone, in a otterbox case, anyways what a great way to use it! I love my phone and I love this app!

THE BEST

MUST HAVE!

Great app

Love this app use it every day. Great for fig concrete angles and everything under th sun

#1

#1 construction calculator ever made

Fantastic App and great customer support!!!

Really needed a new construction calculator, and like everyone else, couldnt stomach paying another $100 for a new one. Well just downloaded this app and was in the middle of pricing a job, when I couldnt access a certain command! I sent an email to customer support, and to my surprise they emailed me back within about 10mins! Couldnt believe it!!! After being let down in the past by other App companies customer support, its so nice to actually recieve great customer care! Plus, it really is a bloody good App! Well done!

Version 2 puts BC back in the game

BuildCalc 2.0 is great! major UI enhancements over 1.3.2. Well worth $20... Check out the new stairs UI - it even emails PDFs. Dev has obviously been hard at work on this upgrade, and it shows!

Buildcalc is the BEST

Aside from being an outstanding app, the customer service is amazing. Not only did I get a response, but a personal note as well. Great job & thanks for the support.

The best gets even better!

The new advanced features are fantastic! The dev has been hard at work making this the best construction calculator on the planet and it shows. Cant ask for better support from a developer - 42nd Parallel is the gold standard. This app keeps getting better and better. Hands down, this is the best construction calculator available today; its super intuitive. This isnt an imitation. This is better than any Construction Master offering. Better than InchCalc. If you have a need to do any sort of construction math, stop wasting time and money. Buy BuildCalc today!

Wow

I have been a carpenter for 23 years. This makes me feel like an old timer. I wish I could have the time back that this would have saved me over those years. A must have.

About time!

I found a description of the app in a builder magazine and immediately searched for the program. After the download to my iPhone I scanned through the manual and was amazed at the time-saving solutions to many of my everyday layout chores. Being a second generation Home Builder and having labored through the repetitive layout calculation of stairs, rails, rafters, etc. I was amazed at how fast and easy this program made the normally redundant calculations. The only minor drawback I found was the documentation didnt give complete and thorough directions about some of its features. I received an email back from one of the developers with an answer to one of my questions within a few hours of having sent it. I wish all apps had this kind of customer service.

Impressive. Well worth a $20.

Extremely functional app. Highly capable with easy to use interface. This my first construction type calculator and Im impressed with what it can do. One nice feature is that you can email PDFs of a layout for stairs and then print it out. Customer support is excellent as well. Spoke with the Ben on the phone about a solution to a problem I couldnt figure out. Very nice and knowledgable guy. Thanks again for the help and a useful application.

WOW!

This is the most used app I have purchased for my iPhone, and Ive purchased only really good apps that I need and use regularly. In fact, I have used it every day for about a year, receiving each update as soon as it is released. There are still features I have not yet relied on, but when I need them they will come in handy, such as the masonry and roof features. The stair calculator is absolutely amazing and a huge time saver. Now I am less likely to make an error, and the drawing email concept is great. The features I use most often are the metric and imperial conversions because I do a lot of CAD work, and using this calculator is easier than my dedicated conversion app because BuildCalc lets me do the math and conversions simultaneously. As a 3-D design and sculpture instructor, I use the circle and rise/run/diagonal tools to solve student project problems as well. This calculators ability to be customized is a useful improvement over fixed/dedicated physical calculators like my Construction Master 5 (which I have taken out of my drawer only a few times since purchasing BuildCalc). When Im working predominantly in metric mode, BuildCalc is a metric dominant calculator. And when inches and feet are needed for a job, I set it to be predominantly imperial. So why would I keep my Construction Master calculator? Because sometimes I need to do calculations while also needing my iPhone as a phone or camera. And sometimes I need the tactile feel of pushbutton keys, which the iPhone cannot simulate. But for the vast majority of needs it is the BuildCalc that gets used, since it is always with me. It is very helpful to be able to receive free updates for the calculator. The cost of this app is so worth it. I have purchased the Construction Master calculators for nearly 20 years, needing to repurchase as improvements became available and when one of the calculators stopped working. This amounted to 4 or 5 purchases of about $80-$90 each time. Now, this app is one purchase and has free updates! Yeah! A little while ago the program had a glitch, and I emailed the designer. He replied immediately and within the same day had solved the problem and reprogrammed the App, releasing it a short time later. This is true customer support, and I discovered that they really do want input, good or bad, because this gets us a product that is truly what we want.
